Cisco 4000 NET FLOW SUPERVISOR CARD

The NetFlow Services Card adds NetFlow accounting to the Catalyst 4500 series. NetFlow accounting collects statistics on a per-flow basis. A flow is defined as a source IP address, destination IP address, IP protocol type, source Layer 4 port, and destination Layer 4 port. Without the NetFlow Services Card, the Supervisor Engine IV on the Catalyst 4500 does not support NetFlow accounting.

The NetFlow Services Card is a configurable option on the Supervisor Engine IV for the Catalyst 4500 platform and is supported in a redundant supervisor configuration if both supervisors have a NetFlow Services Card.

Cisco Systems introduces the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Supervisor Engine 32, the next generation of supervisor engine for the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series of modular switches targeted for the wiring closet. Supervisor Engine 32, with Policy Feature Card 3B (PFC3B), extends core innovations to the network edge. Based on the industry-leading Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Supervisor Engine 720 technology, the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Supervisor Engine 32 allows customers to cost-effectively enable hardware-based security features, such as denial of service (Dos) mitigation to protect network application performance, and scalable support for multicast applications at the network edge.

PFC3B offers CPU rate limiters, hardware-based MAC learning, and user-based rate limiting. It limits threats from the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server, default gateway, or end-user IP address-spoofing using features such as DHCP Snooping, Dynamic Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) Inspection, and IP Source Guard. The supervisor engine allows close control over the end with which users can access the network and what privileges they are granted through identity-based networking with IEEE 802.1x, port-based security, and port-based access lists. These integrated security features are hardware based and can be enabled concurrently without compromising system performance as traffic levels increase.

The Cisco Catalyst 6500/Cisco 7600 Series Supervisor Engine 720 is a family of Supervisor Engines designed to deliver scalable performance and rich set of IP features in hardware. Its hardware-based feature set can enable applications such as traditional IP forwarding Layer 2 and Layer 3 Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) VPNs, Ethernet over MPLS (EoMPLS) with quality of service (QoS) and security features. The Supervisor engine 720 integrates a high-performance 720-Gbps crossbar switch fabric with a forwarding engine in a single module, delivering 40 Gbps of switching capacity per slot (enabling 4-port 10GE and 48-port 10/100/1000 density line cards). With hardware-enabled forwarding for IPv4, IPv6 and MPLS, the system performance is capable of 400 Mpps for IPv4, 200 Mpps for IPv6 traffic, with features and 1024 VRFs each populated with up to 700 routes/VRF for MPLS.

The Cisco Supervisor Engine 720 offers strong security features. System security is hardened with support for features such as Port Security, CPU rate limiting, Multi-Path uRPF and 802.1x with VLAN. Extensive feature support such as QoS mechanisms, hardware-based generic-routing-encapsulation (GRE) tunneling, and access control lists (ACLs) enable customers to build high-performance, feature-rich networks capable of offering services such as MPLS VPNs, metropolitan (metro) aggregation, and various WAN edge services.
